Most Spanish citizens rule out going on vacation this summer,
and of the few who plan to do so, only one in ten will go abroad, revealed a
survey by the government's Center for Sociological Research (CIS).
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, 65.7% of
respondents said they have ruled out going on vacation and 7% still hesitate to
do so.
Of the scarce 27.2% who intend to go on vacation, more than
90% will choose to stay in a Spanish destination, while only 6% want to travel
abroad and 2.5% choose to combine both options, according to this survey of
4,258 people.
In addition, 83% plan to travel in a private vehicle,
against only 21.6% who will do so in public transport such as airplanes,
trains, buses or ships.
Very punished by the confinement and restrictions on
mobility decreed by countries around the world, the powerful Spanish tourism
sector, the second largest destination in the world, relies on domestic demand
to save a summer season that is expected to be dire.
Spain, one of the countries most impacted by the pandemic
with more than 27,000 deaths, will open its borders with the countries of the
European Union on Sunday, except for Portugal, which will take place on July 1. (AFP/Travel Films)
