Trump Increases Pressure to Eliminate Filibuster and Shares Holder Audio on Possible Supreme Court Expansion

President Donald Trump continues to intensify his pressure on Republican senators to push for the elimination of the filibuster, a legislative mechanism that allows for blocking legislation by requiring a supermajority of 60 votes to advance the discussion. In a recent message posted on Truth Social, Trump insisted that the Republican Party must act more forcefully if it wants to advance its legislative agenda.

On Monday, the president released a video that included an audio clip attributed to former Attorney General Eric Holder, in which he allegedly suggested that if Democrats were to achieve an electoral “trilogy” in 2028—control of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives—they should consider expanding the number of Supreme Court justices.

The release of the video is part of Trump's evidence to strongly support his call to eliminate filibusters, arguing that Republicans need more flexible rules to counter potential institutional maneuvers by the opposition. The statement attributed to Holder also reignites a recurring debate about the structure of the Supreme Court, an issue that has divided Democrats and Republicans for years and that tends to resurface during election periods.

Although the idea of modifying the number of justices on the highest court has circulated in various progressive circles, there is no consensus within the Democratic Party, and the mere mention of the topic is frequently used by his opponents as an example of what they consider attempts to reconfigure the balance of power. In this context, Trump's call to reform Senate rules takes on a more forceful tone, seeking to mobilize his base and pressure legislators from his party to defend the Court itself.
