House Speaker Mike Johnson provided an update following the passage of the Unleash Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025, a bill championed by the Republican majority that seeks to reverse what they describe as the “catastrophic ban” on liquefied natural gas (LNG) implemented during the administration of former President Joe Biden.
The initiative, passed in the Republican-controlled House,
aims to revive and expand LNG production, exports, and infrastructure
development, arguing that this energy source is key to economic competitiveness
and national security. Supporters of the bill maintain that the previous
restrictions negatively impacted workers, producers, and the country’s ability
to meet global energy demand.
In a press release, Johnson highlighted the collaboration
between former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers, asserting that
both are aligned in the goal of “unleashing reliable American energy.”
According to Johnson, the bill aims to reduce energy costs for families,
strengthen employment in the sector, and prevent the United States from once
again being subject to decisions by “radical bureaucrats and climate
activists,” whom he blames for hindering the country’s energy development.
The advancement of the 2025 LNG Act marks a new chapter in
the political dispute over the United States’ energy direction, a debate that
is intensifying amid international pressure, environmental concerns, and a
changing economic landscape. The bill must now face its next legislative stage
before becoming law.
